The managing director of Cellnet wanted to commission a large painting for their marble lined reception in South London, he felt that the painting should be traditional in feel and have some direct relevance to Cellnet. Ely Cathedral was chosen as the subject as it is a broadcast site for Cellnet and emphasises their
policy of minimal disruption to the enviroment. The artist Arthur K Maderson was selected to carry out thiscommission and we visited Ely Cathedral with Arthur on a glorious summer's day to work out what would make the very best view to create the piece - this included clambering up some very precarious ancient
buildings nearby to get a raised view! Arthur initially produced five pastel sketches from which the managing director choose one which was then be made into the final oil painting.
